DMT Incubation Program 


Hayward Area Recreation and Parks district is committed to nurturing local performing arts groups in Hayward and Bay Area. As an extension of this commitment and in response to a growing need for performance and operational support post-pandemic, H.A.R.D. is launching the Douglas Morrisson Theater Arts Incubation Program. The program aims to have a multifaceted impact on the community, the arts, and individual artists by offering resources, mentorship, and training, it helps emerging artists and groups overcome the barriers to professional growth and artistic expression. 

What Incubator Participants Receive

Two In-kind Performance Dates Per Year 
Dates available are at the discretion of the district and must not conflict with established DMT Presents, Special Events, or Rentals. 

Use of administrative area, costume shop, and scene shop 
Work must take place between M-F 9 am to 5 pm when district staff is onsite. Storage of props or costumes is strictly prohibited, and individuals or groups should have an external storage space lined up offsite for their items. Spaces within the theater are not available during tech weeks for established DMT Presents, Special Events, or Rentals. 

Free costume, prop, and scenic rentals 
Participants will be able to rent costumes, props, and scenic pieces for performances within Douglas Morrisson Theater through the Winton Warehouse 

Professional development opportunities with local partner performing arts non-profits 
Up to 2 professional development opportunities will be offered through our partner organizations on topics defined by the incubation cohort. Marketing through DMT Season Guide and District Social Media. Marketing materials will need to meet all district guidelines and be reviewed before distribution. 

In return, Incubation Participants will participate in the following activities to support our Arts Access Program: 

  • 1-2 workshops at a HUSD school or H.A.R.D. Arts Afterschool Program as arranged by the district 

  • Open Dress rehearsals for low-income children/youth and seniors as appropriate
